Review Game Destiny 2: Forsaken

Destiny 2 players looking for more will have their prayers answered September 4.

That's the date Bungie plans to start the game's "Year 2," with the release of the newest Destiny 2 DLC expansion called Forsaken.

In a stream on the developer's Twitch channel Tuesday afternoon, first details were released that showed just how seriously it's taking some of the criticisms that have been leveraged against the sequel's longevity and lack of content. To answer some of the fan base's restlessness, Bungie has announced new areas of play, a new weapon type, a new game mode, and an all new raid.

Forsaken will send players to two new destinations: new locations in the Reef, and a unique area called The Dreaming City.

"Full of secrets to discover and bosses to defeat, this destination also houses the brand-new raid and is the first space designed from the ground up to support endgame content," Bungie said about The Dreaming City.

Destiny 2 has had two content updates since its October release last year, Warmind and Curse of Osiris, but the game has not had an all new raid separate from the main game's Leviathan. The raid in the Dreaming City will be its fully-fledged second. According to the livestream, it will be a dynamic experience that will change over time.

Since the release of the first Destiny in 2013, players have only had various firearms at their disposal to take out the enemies of the Light. With Forsaken, Bungie announced that they will include a bow and arrow as a new weapon type.

Tuesday's stream also revealed Gambit, an all new play mode that seeks to combine PVP and PVE.

"Gambit is a new, hybrid 4v4 mode that merges both PvE and PvP experiences into an epic battle," Bungie's press release said, "This entirely new way to play Destiny 2 offers something for all types of gamers to enjoy, appealing to those who thrive on the competitive challenge of PvP gameplay, while seamlessly blending the collaborative and unpredictable elements of PvE."

Bungie also announced in the livestream new supers, new armor, and a new story involving a gritty prison break.

Destiny 2's Forsaken DLC will cost $40 on its own, or $70 with a season pass that will included more premium content. It will be available on Xbox One and PS4 September 4.
